Most people have them, you know, those favorite t-shirts that are too sentimental to give away, even the ones that are too small or too well worn to continue being worn. The closets and drawers are overflowing with them! Sigh. What to do, what to do?

We understand, and have a solution for you! It’s time to box them up, send them to Quilts ‘N Kaboodle in Texas (no, we aren’t a charity collection/distribution agency). We will take your special t-shirts and turn them into a T-shirt quilt.

It's as simple as that! Really. You provide the t-shirts and we'll provide everything else! Just sort through those favorite shirts from past vacations, sports events, church events, concerts, high school or college events, collectables such as NASCAR or Harley Davison t-shirts– any shirt that holds special memories that you want to be memorialized.

In a few weeks we'll return your favorite t-shirts fashioned into a beautiful cuddly quilt that is sure to be an heirloom! Each quilt is as individual as its owner and is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face as it warms your heart with a flood of all those precious memories. Nothing says love better than a quilt!

Can Jerseys or Sweatshirts Be Included?

Yes, however, if any of the shirts have very thick patches or thick lettering they may not be suitable for quilting on the longarm machine. When in doubt, just ask.

Do I Need to Do Anything Special to the Shirts First?

We’d appreciate if you washed them, but please don’t use fabric softener. We understand stains and small worn places – that just adds to the character and uniqueness of your quilt.

What Size Will The Quilt Be?

Looking for a dorm room quilt or queen size quilt? The chart below shows typical mattress sizes. If you desire that your quilt to be a bed covering you should measure your individual bed for the exact size being sure to figure in the “drop” on the sides.

How Many Shirts Does It Take?

Quilts are made up of blocks, the blocks are made from the shirts you provide. The size and price of the quilt will be determined by the number of blocks desired. As few as 9 shirts will make a nice wallhanging, up to 42 to make a king size quilt, see the pricing and layout chart below for finished sizes.
What If I Have An Odd Number of Shirts?

That’s when we get creative! Sometimes blocks are made from combining graphics from multiple shirts. Still an odd number? We can discuss possibilities of adding a plain fabric block or a photo transfer when we discuss your quilt.
What Size Are The Blocks And How Do You Make Them?

Generally child/youth size shirts look best as a 12 inch block whereas adult shirts sometimes need the additional block size of 14.5 to be able to best display the graphics. Please note that the sizes are not mix and match, either your quilt has 12 inch or  14.5 inch - you may specify which or leave the choice to us.

Each shirt is first stabilized with high quality fusible interfacing to enhance the appearance and durability while maintaining softness. This does NOT make the quilt stiff.
Next the shirts are cut to block size to showcase the graphics. Sometimes it is difficult to center a small graphic design, and on the same token, if the graphic is larger than the block size part of the design may be cut off. Regardless, the memories remain.

One t-shirt typically equals one block, however, you may wish to use both the front and back of a shirt which would count for two blocks. Please make a notation on the shirt which side(s) to use.

Also there are occasions when smaller logos need to be combined together to make a full size block. We are happy to accommodate for an additional piecing  fee per block  - see examples below.

Besides T-shirts, What Else Does It Take To Make The Quilt?

The blocks are pieced together with accent fabric between each block called sashing; at the intersection of the sashed blocks are more fabric accents called cornerstones. These can be the same color as the sashing or a second color, the choice is yours. We have a rainbow of  fabric colors to choose from.

We use high quality quilter's 100% cotton, not cotton blends or sheets for the construction of our T-shirt quilts. Remember, this is a quilt studio not a sweatshop, quality is our reputation and your t-shirt quilts deserves no less than the best products used in their construction.

Once the top is pieced it is loaded on our A1 Longarm Quilting Machine along with a high quality quilter's 100% cotton backing and 80/20 cotton/poly blend batting (the same batting used in our award winning quilts, no inferior batting in our studio!)

Next the machine quilting stitches are added - this not only enhances the beauty of the quilt  by adding texture making it “look and feel like one of grandma’s” but also joins the three layers together so your heirloom will be durable and usable - much stronger than hand-tied construction offered by other companies.

The final process is to add the fabric binding around the edges for a professional finishing touch, again using high quality quilter's 100% cotton.  A total turnkey operation!

What Is Done With The Scraps From The Shirts?

Glad you asked. If you would like them returned we will be glad to save the cuttings after the block is trimmed from your shirts. If this is not specified we will recycle them for you.

So How Much Does This Cost?

One t-shirt block is $20. There is an additional $10 fee if the block is pieced from multiple shirts.

The finished sizes and prices* are listed in the chart below depending upon the number of blocks in your quilt. Refer to the graphics on the left for a visual of the construction layout.
